Redefining Brief

One aspect that I could not stop thinking about was the fact that all my previous designs and ideas mostly relied on plastic being heated. However, I don’t want a project, which focusses on sustainability and environmentally friendly design, when instead it creates more harm to the environment. Thus, I’ve been trying to redefine my brief and my focus for this project.
I was previously advised to look at manufacturing techniques, trying to figure out ways in which plastic could be industrially repurposed without releasing toxins. The challenge that I faced trying to concentrate on that aspect was the sheer enormity of the problem. There are thousands of firms currently investing a lot of money to figure out a solution to toxin-free reuse. I, as an undergraduate student, do not have the financial resources or the machinery to experiment with plastic in such a way and come up with a marketable solution.
However, since I do not want to ignore that aspect of utilising plastic as a material, the manufacturing process will have to be a part of my project to some extent. After quite a bit of thinking, I have come up with a solution: utilise plastic without heating it. If plastic is used alongside other materials, I could design appealing concepts, while leaving the plastic in its original form. This would both insure my focus on design and not producing toxins.
